What is a precursor?

A biological precursor is a molecule in the body that generates another, more useful molecule. The choice of a specific precursor depends on the intended target.

Examples:

• anti-aging precursors: amino acids are precursors of proteins such as collagen and elastin.
• protection precursors: a combination of linoleic acid and pantothenic acid precursors provide excellent protective benefits. 

Why use “precursors” instead of regular “active ingredients”?

Supplying the skin with precursors instead of active molecules is more efficient in many ways:

• A precursor ingredient is usually smaller and more stable than an active molecule, which means that it penetrates the skin more easily and in an unaltered state.
• An active molecule made from a precursor ingredient and produced by the cells itself obviously will be perfectly biocompatible and therefore more efficient as well.
• With a regular everyday supply of precursor ingredients, the skin is prompted to function at a higher level, like an enhanced workout regimen.

Are products formulated with precursors suitable for all skin types?

Yes.

A precursor’s activation depends entirely on each user and the state of their skin. Products based on precursors can never be overdosed: unused precursors are harmless and will be eliminated naturally through the skin cells' normal regenerative process.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CELL REPAIR AND CELL REGENERATION ?

While cell repair corrects damage to existing cells, cell regeneration replaces damaged cells with new ones. Both processes are essential for maintaining healthy tissues and organs, but they have different contexts and distinct mechanisms.

WHAT CAUSES EXPRESSION LINES?

On one hand, expression lines are created by voluntary and involuntary muscular contractions and tiny movements made hundreds of times a day (when we talk, laugh, frown, etc.); Over time, as we age, the skin's ability to regain its shape after these contractions diminishes due to the loss of collagen and elastin. This leads to the appearance of visible lines or wrinkles even when the face is at rest. The most common areas where expression lines appear are around the eyes (crow's feet), between the eyebrows (frown lines), and on the forehead.

WHAT DOES THE CIRCADIAN RYTHM MEAN ?

The circadian rhythm is a 24-hour cycle. It's the body's biological clock that regulates essential physiological and behavioural functions and processes. Among these rhythms, the best known is undoubtedly the sleep-wake cycle. This internal clock is directly influenced by external stimuli, particularly light, which is why circadian rhythms coincide with the day-night cycle.

The ability of the skin to reflect light is measured with a spectrometer/colorimeter. The resulting value is called “Gloss Parameter”.

ROS stands for Reactive Oxygen Species. They are oxygen-containing molecules produced during cellular metabolism. At moderate levels, they play a positive role in cell signalling. However, an excess of ROS can cause oxidative stress, damaging skin structures and accelerating aging. Factors such as UV radiation and pollution can increase ROS levels. Antioxidants help to neutralise their harmful effects.
